Do I need to provide a tent or other camping equipment for the overnight farm trip? No, your camper will not need to bring their own tent. For the overnight camping trip your child will need his or her own sleeping bag, clothes and personal items.

What is Bay Leaf Kitchen's background/experience? The Bay Leaf Kitchen team have an extensive background in camping, cooking, teaching and education management. For a detailed history please check out our Who We Are or Mission & Values pages.

What kind of knives or other equipment will campers be using? Campers will be using age appropriate kitchen equipment including safe knives, stoves, ovens, and mixers with guidance and supervision of Bay Leaf Kitchen staff.

What is your cancellation policy? Our refund policy is designed to discourage last minute cancellations and to help families on the waiting list. The tuition is refundable (minus a $50.00 application fee) for requests received in writing, via e-mail, to info[AT]bayleafkitchen.org before May 15th, 2017. After May 15th, there is no refund unless the space can be filled by another camper. During camp, there is no refund for camper illness, missed days, vacations, or dismissal from the program. CAMP FACILITIES: Our 7,500 sq. ft facility houses two professional stages (65-seat and 99-seat), rehearsal and classroom space, offices, and a large lobby gallery. Nestled between a cafe, salon, retail shops, and a popular wine bar, Edgemar Center for the Arts is the anchor of the Edgemar complex on Main Street in Santa Monica. The interior courtyard provides a hub of activity and a convergence of artists, businesses, residents, and visitors to this beachside destination. The complex is a stop on the tour of local gems designed by architect Frank Gehry. The Los Angeles region has a wealth of small "black box" theatres, many of them housed in older structures. Edgemar Center for the Arts theatre’s are unique in size and height and are designed for the challenges of modern stage productions. The Westside, in particular, has only a handful of theatres and Edgemar Center for the Arts stands alone as the only such center in its class.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Education Encounters camps are fun camps that foster a child’s love of learning. Based around history themes, these small thematic camps make history come alive by integrating history with science and art. Depending on the week, the children will hear myths, make "cat mummies", design shields, explore printmaking, fire catapults, build structures, or go on a field trip to the Egyptian Museum.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
CAMP COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Brief Description: Camp counselors at Pali Adventures are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of campers. They supervise campers in a cabin setting, at mealtimes, and during activities. Counselors are in charge of facilitating activities throughout the day. Counselors work as a team to ensure all campers have a fun and memorable experience at camp. Counselors report directly to their Specialty Director and Group Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Exhibit characteristics of responsibility, dependability, leadership, patience, punctuality, hard work, sense of humor, self-control, integrity, common sense, good judgment and a positive enthusiastic attitude.
 Complete the staff application and interview process.
 Attend staff training (May 30 – June 12) and all in-service trainings.
 Must have completed high school and be a minimum 18 years of age or older as of 5/30/20.
 Desire and ability to work with children.
 Other duties as assigned

Staff members are entrusted with the care and safety of young children in a rustic setting replete with natural and man-made dangers. All staff members must have the ability to respond immediately to an emergency. Any staff member with a disability that may affect the Staff Member’s ability to physically perform these requirements should immediately inform the Human Resources Department to determine possible reasonable accommodations.

• Serve the campers as a positive role model.
• Camp staff members will actively supervise campers both in assigned cabin groups (typically 10 campers and 2 counselors) and at assigned specialty, elective, evening and weekend activity programs.

• Learn the likes and dislikes of each camper in your care by showing genuine interest.
• Recognize and respond to the opportunities for problem solving in the group.
• The counselor is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of each camper within their cabin group and with whom they come into contact. E.g. drinking water, daily showers, teeth brushing, active supervision during rest/ down time, application of sunscreen and lip balm, appropriate attire for the activity they will be attending, etc.

• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• The staff member must never leave campers unsupervised.

CAMP FACILITIES: The facility is rustic, in keeping with its wilderness adventure program. Participants sleep in cabins and large traditional tipis. CAMP FACILITIES: Most camp activities take place in the gardens and courtyards of the beautiful and historic Temple/Bixby home, an original adobe structure dating to the late 1800s. Through a sustained community effort, the site has many original items, and has been preserved and restored professionally to help create an authentic experience for visitors.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The program, now in its 8th year, provides affordable, well supervised, and engaging historic activities, games, and craft projects on the beautiful grounds of the Temple/Bixby adobe, one of the oldest structures in Long Beach. In addition to sack and three legged races, cow chipping, and charades, children will also create a variety of take home crafts like tooled leather, tin punch lanterns, and herb sachets.

The camp's programs create a fun and festive atmosphere for participants, yet still help to shape some understanding about living and working in Old California. Each week has a unique focus, and some themed activities, but also will include many of the fun things kids look forward to who come for multiple weeks.

Example activities include herding, leather tooling, sack races, charades, songs & stories, cowboy vests, croquet, boot craft, Western dancing, tissue paper flowers, tin punch lanterns, making adobe, and mud pies.

CAMP FACILITIES: Sino Language is pleased to have the The Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University be our host campus for our Chinese Language & Culture Immersion summer camp in Beijing (LCB). CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer is the perfect time to catch up and get ahead! At PRIDE Learning Center we offer a fantastic summer program to give students a GIANT boost in their weakest areas. Our summer program is the most popular program of the year! PRIDE'S teachers are all credentialed and certified in Orton-Gillingham methodology.

This intensive one-on-one reading and writing program utilizes our multi-sensory, phonemic, Orton-Gillingham approach that we at PRIDE Learning Center are experts at. This program helps students in a way that a regular summer school program would not. Students progress one entire reading level in 4-5 weeks!

Students attend Monday - Friday from 9:00am - 12:00pm or 12:30 - 3:30pm.

CAMP FACILITIES: Pool and Lagoon
Our Junior Olympic-size pool affords campers the opportunity to work on and improve swimming skills, soak up the sun, or just play! It’s also the site of one of our biggest color wars competitions of each session, the all-camp Aqua Fest.

The Lagoon is the most popular place in camp on a hot summer day, and many of our late afternoons are spent here as other activities in camp are winding down. Paddle boats & paddle boards, rope swing, high jump, trampoline – there’s so much to do! The lagoon is fed by a babbling brook just waiting to be explored, and which carries native brook and German brown trout, making the lagoon a great fishing spot as well.

Dining Hall
Our lodge style dining hall is the heart of camp and has a truly historic lodge-like feel. Food is served & buffet tables are set up inside at mealtimes, while campers eat under the canopy outside, affording everyone a view of the sprawling meadow and lagoon. Our all-camp dances take place here, and on those rare but wonderful occasions when we get an evening rainstorm, we have someplace dry to gather for some indoor games, too!

Cabins
Each cabin at Mountain Meadow Ranch is unique in style, but every cabin has electricity, wall-to-wall carpeting, and is complete with its own bathroom and shower facilities. Many have a front deck that overlooks the central meadow, a great place to catch up with their cabin mates and enjoy the view. Campers sleep in their own twin-sized cozy wooden bunk beds with bedding or sleeping bags, all clothes and belongings are kept in trunks or luggage that slide under or to the side of their bunks. There are shelves and countertop space in the bathrooms. Laundry service is offered once a week for all campers and staff. It is priority that our cabins be clean, safe and comfortable. Cabin groups are separated according to age and gender.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Serendipity and flexibility are essential to our summer camp activity program – designed to allow each camper the ability to style the program according to what they want to do. Therefore, there is no pre-registration before camp for any of our activities. Campers choose which activity to participate in 2 to 4 times each weekday. We encourage campers to try as many new and different activities as possible, but in the end it’s still their choice.

Weekends are a little different, as they are spent as a whole camp family playing Color Wars. The entire camp participates in these events; however each camper still gets to choose what role they will have in each events.

Stage Kids CA was recently honored as "Best family-friendly musical" for their holiday production of "Bah Humbug".

Often, the success of a show is determined by the number of tickets sold or the overall presentation. To us, the process is just as important (if not MORE important!) than the performance, so we focus on challenging and growing the children. After all, that's what makes a better show...theater skills are really life skills!

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
We are looking for responsible kid friendly camp counselors for our summer 2017 camps.  Imagine taking daily field trips around the Bay Area to all of your favorite places. At Urban Adventure Camps you will get a chance to play hard and work hard, all while experiencing the Bay Area.

Our summer counselors get the opportunity to explore and learn right along side the kids. CAMP FACILITIES: 6 large camper cabins that have restrooms and showers and are all wheelchair accessible, outdoor pool, recreation lodges, indoor dining hall, outdoor basketball court, picnic area, infirmary, sports field and 3 amphitheaters (1 large and 2 small), access to several hiking trails within the State Park. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Traditional summer camp activities include campfire programs, carnivals, talent shows, theme dances, camp olympics, kickball, t-ball, softball, dinosaur egg hunts, crafts and specialty classes like cooking, dance classes, soap making, frisbee golf and more. Staff go through 4 days of intensive training before camp sessions start. Training includes behavior intervention, health & safety procedures, disability awareness and more.

Brain Chase is a 6-week summer learning challenge disguised as a massive global treasure hunt for 2nd−8th graders. A golden globe has been buried somewhere on earth – and it contains the key to a safe deposit box holding a $10,000 college scholarship fund. Participants who complete an hour of online summer learning activities each day will unlock secret animated webisodes that hold the clues to the globe’s whereabouts. Guess the treasure’s location first, and you’ll be the one on a plane to dig it up.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our camp is located at St. Michael's Abbey of the Norbertine Fathers. The camp utilizes our boarding school facilities for sleeping, eating, and praying in the abbey church.
Our 36 acre property is perfect for a boys' camp, with sports fields, hiking, and an on-site pool.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: St. Michael’s Summer Camp is a day and night resident camp for boys, ages 7-12. It has been in operation since 1962 and is accredited by the American Camping Association. Sessions are one week long, from Sunday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, extending from early July to early August.

Operated by the priests and seminarians of St. Michael’s Abbey, the camp offers good, wholesome fun in a safe environment, as well as instruction in the Catholic faith and participation in the sacraments.

With a wide variety of activities, ranging from classic team sports to tarantula hunting to epic battles that determine the fate of the entire universe, St. Michael’s Summer Camp is truly “Where All Boys Have Fun!”®

Upon their arrival on Sunday afternoon, the campers are divided into councils of 6-8 boys per counselor. The campers are always supervised. Even at night, two staff members are present in every dorm. Sleeping arrangements consist of three bunkrooms and one large military tent, each sleeping 3-6 councils.

Campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, animal rights) and at YEA they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue long after camp is over. Youth who have participated in our programs report that the camp was one of the most fun, rewarding and life-changing experiences they have had, and, with YEA's community support, have gone on to start school clubs, plan fundraisers for nonprofits, organize community clean-ups, and attend hearings to comment about important community issues.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The mission of US Performing Arts Camps is to promote and develop the growth of performing artists in America.

US Performing Arts Camps is considered the premier top tier summer program for training young people in the arts. Our programs are taught by the university or college departments and their professional faculty and guest professionals in their fields.

US Performing Arts offers programs in Animation, Computer Animation, Costume design, Directing, Film-making (including 4K High-definition), Dance, Hip Hop Dance, Musical Theater, Play-writing, Sit Com Writing, Sit Com Acting, Singing, Voice-over work for animation, movies and games, and we started the first College Audition Boot Camps for high school students.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: California Theatre Center's Core Conservatory is a full-day theatre experience for students with or without prior theatre training. Students work hands-on with CTC's professional teaching artists in acting, movement and voice classes. All students are cast in a play that is performed for the public on the final two days. In this process-based Conservatory, the students also design and build all props, sets, costumes, tickets and programs as they engage in and learn about every aspect of live theatre. Includes 4 tickets to Summer Rep, CTC's professional repertory season of plays.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We host camps with a 10-1 ratio. Make Me A Pro's philosophy is "To Play like a Pro, Learn from a Pro". Does this mean we only teach advanced players? No, not at all! Our goal is to hire the most talented coaches, many with professional playing experience, who can express their joy of the sport and enable campers to be the best they can be, regardless of skill level.

We use challenging, yet fun games and drills that push our campers to reach their potential as individuals, while training towards their goals of becoming better players. We understand that every child we encounter has a different personality that comes with different needs. SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
We are always looking for High School students and college athletes that are willing and capable of communicating their technical sports ability to the younger audience, while following a curriculum we provide.

CAMP FACILITIES: San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region. Since it was founded in 1897, the university has grown to become a nationally ranked research university. Campers stay in the dorms on campus, 2 per room, and train on the SDSU soccer turf playing fields.

CAMP FACILITIES: Rising Star is all about musical theatre. Each group (we have 2 age groups) does a production.

This Summer Little Stars, 5 - 7 year olds, will do The Music Man Revue.

Rising Stars, the 8 - 16 year olds, will do The Sound of Music, a full production.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Campers arrive at 9 AM the younger group stays until 1 and the older group stays until 3. We spend our time singing, learning songs, learning dances, working on lines and blocking, working on acting, and creating a special show for the end of our Camp session. Every camper has a chance to show their special talent.
