CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The seed of Sessions Songwriting and Music sprung to life in 2007 when its founder, Lauren Bruns, was discussing with a good friend and mother of two that there was a gaping hole in many of the musical programs offered in Los Angeles. Not one school was offering a songwriting component in which kids could express themselves through words and music simultaneously.

Lauren knew firsthand how songwriting benefited her life as a young adult and set out on a mission to create an easy-to-follow curriculum that inspired kids of all musical levels to create and express themselves through original lyrics and music. Our summer camps are led by real musicians who encourage kids to be creative while learning and having fun.

Sessions teachers are graduates of USC, Berklee and other performing arts programs.

Every week-long session includes an overnight farm trip where campers have the opportunity to harvest vegetables, cook, play in the dirt and camp out under the stars. Do I need to provide a tent or other camping equipment for the overnight farm trip? No, your camper will not need to bring their own tent. For the overnight camping trip your child will need his or her own sleeping bag, clothes and personal items.

What kind of knives or other equipment will campers be using? Campers will be using age appropriate kitchen equipment including safe knives, stoves, ovens, and mixers with guidance and supervision of Bay Leaf Kitchen staff.

What is your cancellation policy? Our refund policy is designed to discourage last minute cancellations and to help families on the waiting list. The tuition is refundable (minus a $50.00 application fee) for requests received in writing, via e-mail, to info[AT]bayleafkitchen.org before May 15th, 2017. After May 15th, there is no refund unless the space can be filled by another camper. During camp, there is no refund for camper illness, missed days, vacations, or dismissal from the program. CAMP FACILITIES: Beautiful and recently renovated Black Box Theater. It has a stage and comfortable back stage. All of our props and backgrounds are designed and created by hand. Elevated seating that can fit up to 90 people. There is a ticket booth and a functioning restroom. Different types of lighting: black light, fluorescent, stage lighting, rope lighting, and a disco ball. A working sound board, music, and up-to-date stereo system. We utilize different media options as well.

A few buildings away is our main office, where rehearsals may sometimes be held. It has 3 spacious rehearsal rooms, each with a baby grand piano.

Performance for family and friends at the end of the camp.

We do not skip out on costumes! Every participant will be outfitted in a role and age appropriate costumes for the performance. The actors and actress will also interact with carefully designed and created props.

Students will be learning stage position, projection of their voice, blocking, how to interpret a script, read music, sing in a group, and dancing.

Since the plays we do are musicals, the actors and actresses will learn the basics of singing. It includes, reading music, matching pitch, group and possibly solo singing, tempo, and rhythms. Our choreographer will teach dance positions, dance moves, rhythm, counting, and tempo.

CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:
Monday through Friday, 9AM to 4PM, beginning July 15 and going through August 9th. The camp location will be in Livermore, and is for children aged 7-17. The performances are on Saturday, August 10th and Sunday, August 11th.

The regular tuition for the 4 week program is $1100. Enrollments before July 1, 2013 will receive a 10% discount, reducing the tuition to $990. A 25% deposit of $247.50 is due at the time of registration. The balance of the tuition is due by July 1st, 2013. Enrollments after July 1st must pay the full tuition at the time of enrollment.

CAMP FACILITIES: Sino Language is pleased to have the The Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University be our host campus for our Chinese Language & Culture Immersion summer camp in Beijing (LCB). The School was founded in 1953. With the fine school spirit and high teaching quality, the school enjoys a high reputation in the society as well as international influence. The UCLA Soccer Camps are held on the various fields on the Intramural Field, home to the 2013 National Champion UCLA Bruin Women's Soccer team. Overnight campers stay in the UCLA residence halls, and meals are served in the award-winning UCLA residential restaurants.

The residential restaurants offer a variety of food on an all-you-care-to-eat basis for a well-rounded, balanced diet. Their food choices range from items like soup and salad bars to American, Italian and various other cuisines. Overnight campers are housed in double- and triple-occupancy rooms, and are supervised by coaches and counselors also staying in the residence hall. Roommate preferences will be accommodated whenever possible, but cannot be guaranteed. If no roommate is requested, roommates will be assigned according to age.

We work to give kids skills that cannot be gained at home or in a class room include team building, problem solving, decision-making, planning, self-reliance and leadership. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Urban Blues Basketball Camp with Coach Joe Skiffer. This is your child's chance to learn from one of San Francisco's best-known coaches!

Young players of all genders will learn the following:

Mornings are devoted to offensive skills enhancement with emphasis on shooting, dribbling, footwork and player work without the ball. Defensive concepts include emphasis on floor position, defending the ball, talk and footwork.

Joe accepted a Division 1 scholarship to Boise State University where he was a three-year captain and starter. Joe went on to play semi-pro basketball before he started his career in education and coaching. CAMP FACILITIES: Specialized equipment includes tumble track, sprung floor, rod tumbling floor, trampoline and double mini-trampoline, along with above-ground resi pits and skill-builder shapes (wedges, back handspring trainers, etc.).

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: TrampCamp is taught by the Camp originator, a USAG professional member experienced at setting up and restructuring trampoline and tumbling ("T&T) programs throughout the State of California. She has years of experience as both a gymnastics and T&T coach and judge. Her T&T programs have produced numerous State, Regional and National champions, as well as members of the Regional All-Star and National JumpStart teams. Basics and proper skill development are emphasized. This Camp is for anyone who wants to learn or improve their trampoline, gymnastics and tumbling skills at all levels, from the beginner who wants to learn how to bounce safely for fun, to the cheerleader who wants to work on tumbling skills, through the competitive athlete who wants to improve their skill level. CAMP FACILITIES: Quest Therapeutic Camps of Southern California is a day camp that builds camp programming in at the park and we have field trips in the community to the beach and other local Southern California attractions.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Quest Therapeutic Camps of Southern California is accredited by the American Camp Association, and offers 7 weeks of summer day camps in Huntington Beach for children with mild to moderate difficulties behaviorally, emotionally or socially.

Children who participate in Quest programming often have diagnoses of ADHD, anxiety, Asperger's Disorder, depression, learning disabilities and/or social problems.

Quest Camps provide:

1) Individualized behavior plans;
2) Group therapy four times per week;
3) Occupational therapy services to assist children in building their skills in self-regulation, sensory processing, motor skill development and bilateral coordination;
4) A 6 to 1 camper to staff ratio;
5) Parent meetings with home therapeutic goal development;
6) Consistent positive interventions;
7) Engaging fun activities for campers such as rock climbing, soccer, arts and crafts, and field trips such as high-ropes courses, trips to Knott's Berry Farm, The Discovery Science Center, The Ocean Institute, and beach days.

Quest utilizes a comprehensive therapeutic system that provides a treatment plan individualized for each child. By observing the child in camp activities throughout the day, our staff is able to see how problems present themselves.

Jodie Knott, Ph.D., camp director and licensed clinical psychologist, coordinates the Quest treatment program. She has created and facilitated therapeutic, experiential learning interventions for children for over 12 years and specializes in the assessment and treatment of attention and learning disorders, in addition to mood disorders.

Quest staff is trained to provide positive intervention to teach new, constructive behaviors. Counselors provide verbal support for accomplishments and directions for areas of improvement. By developing an open and nurturing environment where children feel accepted and respected, campers make positive changes because they feel safe to try new behaviors.

We are very proud at Quest to now have evidence-based research that supports what parents and professionals have seen for over twenty years! During the summer of 2008, 155 families participated in an independent research study by Lisa Greenberg to measure the effectiveness of Quest's therapeutic program. The results demonstrated treatment benefits rarely seen in psychological programs. Quest was found to provide effective individualized treatment for children 6-18 years old with mild to moderate behavioral, emotional and/or social problems.

Significant reductions in hyperactivity, impulsivity, aggression and inattention were found, along with improvements in peer relations, family relations, athletic competency, behavioral control and self-esteem. Behavioral problems were found to decrease not only at camp, but also at home, school and everyday life.

Children who come to Quest struggling to make friends, handling frustration and conquering their fears, leave with increased self-esteem and improved peer and family relationships. Their fears and frustrations are reduced and behavioral problems become less influential in their lives.

In addition, Quest parents have consistently rated Quest highly. Specifically, rating very high satisfaction with the overall summer program, quality of staff, individualized goals and behavior ratings, campers' enjoyment, and the ability to keep their child's interest.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Quest’s After School Program consists of three 10-week sessions each school year. Children and adolescents attend the after school program once a week for two hours (from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.) and are grouped based on age and ability.

The Afterschool Program employs the Quest System, and includes an activity hour to work with the campers in a naturalistic environment and an hour of small-group therapy to focus on individual goals and group dynamics. Campers participate in a field trip once every ten-week session.

Regarding the California locations, we have two offices and ample recreation space in each location. CAMP FACILITIES: Most camp activities take place in the gardens and courtyards of the beautiful and historic Temple/Bixby home, an original adobe structure dating to the late 1800s. Through a sustained community effort, the site has many original items, and has been preserved and restored professionally to help create an authentic experience for visitors.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The program, now in its 8th year, provides affordable, well supervised, and engaging historic activities, games, and craft projects on the beautiful grounds of the Temple/Bixby adobe, one of the oldest structures in Long Beach. In addition to sack and three legged races, cow chipping, and charades, children will also create a variety of take home crafts like tooled leather, tin punch lanterns, and herb sachets.

The camp's programs create a fun and festive atmosphere for participants, yet still help to shape some understanding about living and working in Old California. Each week has a unique focus, and some themed activities, but also will include many of the fun things kids look forward to who come for multiple weeks.

Example activities include herding, leather tooling, sack races, charades, songs & stories, cowboy vests, croquet, boot craft, Western dancing, tissue paper flowers, tin punch lanterns, making adobe, and mud pies.

The camp is staffed by trained teenage volunteers who have an established involvement with the Rancho, and who are supervised by Dr. Meighan Maguire, PhD in Communications from UCSD.

CAMP FACILITIES: Cate School's grounds feature an athletic field, tennis courts, swimming pool, art studio and other recreational and program facilities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Haverim is now accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). This accreditation from the most well-respected national camp organization confirms what we have known and committed ourselves to for years - that our programs and activities meet high standards for quality and safety.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Leadership program.

CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:
The cost of each camp session (2 weeks) is $500 for grades K-6. The cost for one week only is $300. We offer children attending all four weeks a $100 discount, reducing the total cost to $900, and a second child/sibling discount of $50 per session.

The tuition includes all camp field trips, a camp T-shirt and two snacks per day. There is an additional fee of $150 per two-week session for our 7th and 8th grade Habonim campers, to cover the cost of special activities (like surfing and scuba diving). The full tuition for each session must be paid before the first day of that session.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our camps are typically held in school classrooms, community centers, and churches and utilize outdoor playgrounds.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our campers are immersed in a hands-on and collaborative environment that cultivates and celebrates what we at Wizbots refer to as EPIC (Experimental, Persistent, Imaginative, Collaborative) qualities which are key to success. Kids journey through our extensive curriculum in pairs and at their own pace, tackling new project challenges and earning bands of recognition for leveling up. CAMP FACILITIES: Our Ballet studio is located in downtown Alameda near shopping and restaurants. It is in a beautiful old building with hardwood floors and large windows with lots of natural light.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Ages 4-6yrs: This level is for beginning students as well as those who have already been in a dance program. In addition to a daily dance class, children learn about and watch a different famous classical ballet each week. They explore their own creativity through exercise in movement concepts. Students also learn valuable lessons about anatomy, nutrition, dance history and vocabulary. Every child goes home with their own Ballet Camp Scrapbook they have created each week.

Ages 7-12yrs: This level is similar in structure and content to the camp for 4 - 6 year olds, but is for children whose focus, coordination, reading and writing skills are more developed. This camp includes a daily ballet class, video of a classical ballet, lessons in music, dance history, anatomy, nutrition and ballet vocabulary. Students explore their creativity with exercises in choreography and activities related to the classical ballet they are studying. CAMP FACILITIES: Mariposa Day Camp, located in Altadena, offers themed weeks with several different emphases for girls to choose from. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our counselors are required to complete one session as a Counselor In Training before we offer them a position. March: Annual Saturday Morning Film Festival where we screen the films made at the Winter Film Camp in a real movie theater in the bay area.

April: Weekend Workshop with Casting Directors, Broadway Stars, or other amazing guests!

May: Cannes International Film Festival in France. Since 2016 we have taken groups of students to France for the Cannes International Film Festival with films we have made at the Winter Film Camp.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We only accept serious players with previous competitive soccer experience. Every year talented players attend our camps and challenge each other to the limit, growing in skill and experience. A number of our campers have experienced training trials with professional clubs in Holland. Our programs are designed to help players achieve their maximum potential through progressive exercises that are individually challenging, as well as appropriate to the age and ability of each player.

We fly in our coaches directly from the Netherlands. They are not merely coaches: they are also teachers. Many of our coaches have graduated from a four- year CIOS College. At the Central Institution of Sports, coaches not only received their coaching licenses from the global leader in soccer development: KNVB (Royal Dutch Soccer Federation) but also learn how to work with, encourage and incentivize young athletes. CAMP FACILITIES: We teach respect for yourself, others, and the environment through a Yosemite backpacking adventure. Participants camp and sleep under the stars or in tents. We move locations and hike daily. We learn about nature and challenge ourselves to become better contributors in this world!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our outdoor summer camps, also known as the Yosemite High Country Adventure youth backpacking trips, are our specialty. Our weekly programs are six days/ five nights in length and average between 25-35 backpacking miles. These trips usually begin in the Yosemite High Country and conclude in Yosemite Valley proper. On all trips we conduct some side hikes (without backpacks) to famous sites and peaks (such as Half Dome, Clouds Rest, El Capitan, Mount Hoffman, and Red Peak).

These day trips average another 6 to 10 miles. Every other week we offer a different trail. So if you would like to choose a two-week adventure (13 days/ 12 nights) by combining two sessions; your child will be guaranteed to see different terrain each week. Additionally, by choosing the two-week option, your child will have a layover day in either Tuolumne Meadows or Yosemite Valley proper where the participants will partake in more sightseeing opportunities. During this layover day, participants will also have a chance to re-supply, wash-up, and eat some fresh food at a local eatery.

Throughout the adventure, participants will be guided along some of the most famous trails and to the top of some of the most famous passes and peaks within Yosemite National Park. Our experienced leaders have an extensive knowledge of the Yosemite backcountry. In addition to taking our participants to many of the famous locations, our leaders will also guide participants to lesser known areas that we have found over the years such as off-the-trail high alpine lakes (where fish are plentiful), backcountry waterfalls, alpine meadows, spectacular vistas, watering holes, cliff jumping areas, and natural waterslides.

On most trips, we backpack every day but one (a lay over day and location is usually agreed upon by the team) and we are on the trail for an average of 4-5 hours. Most of our trips go from a higher elevation to a lower elevation and throughout the experience we take our time, take in the views, and break at awesome watering holes. Yet, viewing the Yosemite backcountry is only one of the many outcomes that occur on these trips.

Our primary mission is to use the natural environment and outdoor activities to teach participants the necessary skills and attitudes for living successful lives. We also strive to foster an appreciation for the wilderness, nature, and the world around us. In addition to unique individual backgrounds and certifications, our leaders are all trained in Adventure Based Programming. Through Adventure Based Programming, participants will be challenged to improve their sense of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence. Participants will participate in daily goal setting, group activities and debriefing (usually mixed in with marshmallows around the campfire.) This is all done within an environment of fun and support.

All participants will also learn basic backpacking skills, wilderness ethics, wilderness appreciation and engage in Leave No Trace principals. Along with creating lasting memories, it is our goal that participants will finish this adventure with a greater knowledge of themselves, the world, and the environment around them.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We develop Yosemite Guides! We have the only Junior Guide program in Yosemite. Open to youth ages 16-18 with a passion for the outdoors and helping others. 2-4 week sessions.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Army and Navy Academy's Summer programs are designed to enrich each participant's character through academic pursuits, recreational activities, and leadership training. Students have the benefit of participating in afternoon activities, and weekend excursions.

Camp Challenge (Leadership Development Courses):

1. Camp Challenge Four-Week JROTC Leadership Development Program.

This camp is the only credit-producing Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) summer leadership course west of the Mississippi. The course is open to both male and female high school students (entering Grades 9 through 12.) The course consists of a combination of classroom work combined with adventure training activities and will reward successful participants with 180 hours of Leadership Education and Training (LET) Credit.

During the course, participants will develop self-confidence as leaders and as active team members as well as enhance his/her Core Values; Honor, Integrity, Responsibility, Loyalty, and Selfless Service. Additionally, this course is designed to add “Leadership” to Resumes and College Applications.

2. Camp Challenge Two-Week High School Leadership Education and Training.

This two-week leadership camp is designed for both male and female students (entering Grades 9 through 12) who are unable to attend the four-week JROTC Course but who are still interested in achieving a leadership training experience. Camper will choose one of the following electives for their focus: Leadership, Aviation,Computer Science, or ESOL.

3. Camp Challenge Two-Week Middle School Leadership Development Programs (LDP), Basic and Advanced.

LDP Basic is an introduction to leadership for students interested in exploring potential and enhancing existing skills while learning the fundamentals of citizenship. Campers gain invaluable life skills through fun activities and adventure based challenges that reinforce teamwork, accountability, discipline, and respect.

LDP Advanced can be taken after completion of LDP Basic and offers an advanced curriculum in leadership combined with an introduction to subjects that will help prepare campers for high school. This course focuses on the core values of responsibility , loyalty, and selfless service.

CAMP FACILITIES: Training is held at the Potrero Field on campus. This complex features space equal to four full size soccer fields. The camp's exclusive use of these fields insures that they are in magnificent condition. Even our professional players on the staff, who expect perfect playing surfaces, appreciate the chance to work on such well-kept fields. Games are also held in the New Arroyo Hall gym next door to the dorms. Playing with tennis shoes and with the smaller indoor ball, campers get the challenge of playing a quicker game with restricted space.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our home is the stunning campus at Cal State Channel Islands located near Camarillo, CA. The university is surrounded by agricultural land and nestled at the base of the Santa Monica mountains. Avodah is a multifaceted, service-based program in which campers play an integral role in camp’s day-to-day operations. Avodahniks develop a strong work ethic and serve as Jewish role models at camp. Beyond daily activities, campers work diligently on a significant camp improvement project and march as a team in both the annual Pride Parade and AIDS Walk in San Francisco.

An experienced educator and visual culture historian, Dr. Romanenko specializes in Museum education, art history, American History, and object-based learning in formal and informal environments. She holds a PhD in Art History from the City University of New York and for more than 15 years teaches art history and works in Museum education. She also holds a BA in Education Sciences and has experience in research, development and implementation of educational programs for different age groups.

Alicia Mino, Art Educator, Manager of the School and Community Programs

An accomplished practicing artists and art educator, Alicia Mino received her Master’s in visual communication from the Metropolitan University of Chile, She spent fifteen years in Italy studying art history, oil painting, and sculpture. She presented in numerous art exhibitions and founded the Mates Art and Design Studio, where she taught drawing, oil/acrylic painting, and sculpture fundamentals for ten years. In 2008 Alicia moved to Philadelphia where she continues to exhibit her work and teaches art.

Lindsey Murphy, Art Educator and K-8 Program Coordinator

An art educator with over a decade of experience in the field of education, Lindsey Murphy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology; concentration in Archaeology from Millersville University, and an Elementary Teaching Certification from Millersville University. She worked as a general education classroom teacher in the Oxford Area School District in Chester County, PA for 8 years, and has worked in PAFA’s education department over the past 11 years creating and implementing numerous museum tours and art making experiences for children and families of all backgrounds, becoming the K-8 Program Coordinator in 2019..

Melissa Hendrixson, Art Educator

Melissa Hendrixson is an artist and art educator who has worked in Museum Education for over five years. She has her Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Studio Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has gained experience through assisting the coordination and development of various museum programming including family programs, youth art classes, and summer camps. She now works for the School and Community Partnership Program as an art educator where she develops and implements museum tours, school lessons, and community outreach programs to support student learning, parental engagement and visual literacy initiatives.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 12 rustic cabins, 1/3 acre natural pond, modern kitchen/dining room, activity building with small group rooms and a game room, Chapel, archery range, shower houses, arts and crafts area, outdoor games, 1/2 court basketball court, 2 campfire areas.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Pendola is an ACA accredited camp. Serving an average of 65 campers each week. sessions range in size from 40 - 96. All of campers spend at least one night sleeping out under the stars. Except for our very youngest campers (Grades 1 and 2), campers hike to remote camp sites, most on Tahoe National Forest Service land, play, prepare dinner and breakfast the following morning, and sleep out under the stars.

Camp staff are college age young adults who are hired for the season. All staff are certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. About 1/2 of the staff have basic certification in Wilderness First Aid. And 90% of the staff are certified lifeguards.

The camp director has been in their current position for 8 1/2 years with over 15 years of experience in administrative camping positions.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: LIT Program for 9th and 10th graders. With an expanded option for 10th graders.

High School Volunteer Program allows for a more flexible leadership training fro those who are unable to commit to multiple consecutive weeks. !0th, 11th and 12th graders.

CAMP FACILITIES: All trips begin at a designated airport. Students explore the most scenic and beautiful places in a particular region, and travel between activity sites in brand-new, 15-passenger vans. CAMP FACILITIES: Our camps take place in our theater and surrounding spaces. We have a mainstage, a green room/rehearsal room with mirrors, and some outdoor rehearsal space. We also share space with the Foster City Recreation department, and a local school.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Hillbarn Theatre Conservatory, formed in 2000, is a theatre arts education program serving the needs of youth and adolescents, ages 4-18, in Foster City and the mid-peninsula area.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: This program is designed for the young dance student, ages 8 to 10, who are currently enrolled in Level 1, 2 or 3 Ballet and are taking a minimum of two to three ballet classes a week. It is a comprehensive program that enhances the dancer’s classical ballet training and introduces the dancer to character, historical dance, jazz, etiquette and proper stretching. Southland Ballet Academy's outstanding faculty will be teaching this camp.

CAMP FACILITIES: River Way Ranch Camp operates as a resort 9 months out of the year when camp is not in session. Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins, and sleep 8 to a room, with two counselors. Cabins are complete with a private bathroom and shower, closest and sink area. River Way Ranch Camp is a beautiful facility, complete with stables, basketball and tennis courts, three pools, an on-site lake, and a high and low ropes course facility.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: River Way campers are divided into divisions. The Buckaroos (ages 7-9) have two counselors with each cabin group at all times. They receive a challenging diversified schedule, teaching them many new skills. Beginning at age 10, Rancheros and Seniors have free choices of activity.
