CAMP FACILITIES: MoCA Westport is a non-profit visual and performing arts organization that has been a cornerstone of the Westport, Connecticut community for over 50 years. In 2019, MoCA Westport underwent a significant expansion in order to bring extensive programming to the local community and greater New York and New England regions.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Active Learning Services, Ltd operates enrichment programs designed to stimulate creative thinking, improve thinking, logic and memory skills and give children "thinking alternatives" to sports camps and other summer programs. Our programs include chess programs and camps thru USA Chess, Our Gamebuilder Video Game Creation Programs and our Active Learning Computer Enrichment Programs.

Our staff is, comprised of the best children's chess instructors in North America! The USA Chess camps are uniquely qualified to cater to the needs of the advanced scholastic player as well as the true beginner. USA Chess hit its first milestone in the summer of 2000 producing the largest chess camp ever held in the United States, with more than 250 students enrolled. What was most surprising, however, was the amount of absolute beginners in attendance - more than 50% of the total enrollment was just starting to play chess. This realization led to the national rollout tour of 100 camps in more than 70 cities. The annual tours have been immensely successful with several thousand campers attending this year alone.

USA Chess thrives on providing a structured environment that is extremely conducive to learning chess. We handpick the best children's chess instructors from all over the United States and bring them to each camp. We believe our team is most effective in teaching chess to children of all ages and levels. CAMP FACILITIES: We have 13 summer cabins and 5 year-round retreat lodges, a large summer social hall and a smaller winter dining hall, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, high and low ropes courses, swimming and boating on our pond, two outdoor chapels, a labyrinth, five outdoor fire pits, large ballfield.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Silver Lake Conference Center has been welcoming conferees (campers) for a week of life-changing, community-building adventure in God's Backyard since 1957. Summer camp is open to young people in grades 4 though 12. Our conferences cover a broad range of interests and activities, from musical theater to poetry to high-energy games to sailing and canoeing. Our week-long conferences have offered "once-in-a-lifetime experiences, over and over" to several generations of youth, helping to shape future leaders and spirited community-builders everywhere.

Each week during the summer we host five conferences for different age groups with different themes. The theme of the conference helps to shape some of the activities for the week. For example, Silver Lake's Funniest Videos will spend some time writing, shooting, and editing short films. Biking North will go on biking adventures outside of Silver Lake.

While a lot of the group's activity will center on the conference's theme, all conferences are camp experiences first: You will live at camp, eat in the social hall with the other conferences, swim in the lake, check out the high and low ropes courses, dig around in the garden, or sit around a campfire. Also, each conference takes turns leading all-camp worship one night of the week.

CAMP FACILITIES: Life on the corridors of Westminster’s dormitories is both energetic and relaxing. It is well-supervised time with live-in corridor supervisors, often complete with family and pets. Student rooms are wired for the Internet and phone service. Corridors are made up of a variety of rooms, from singles to triples, and at least two seniors (Sixth Formers) live on each corridor of ten to fifteen students.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have several large dance studios, open classroom spaces, a Black Box Theater and a 600+ seat Mainstage Theater. There are also outdoor spaces for relaxing and access to a playscape for our younger students.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our summer program has something for everyone. We offer the Day Dreamers program for our littlest performers (3-5) who are just dipping their toes into theatre. Our Children's Cast is for 5-8 year olds who like to create their own stories. The Junior Troupe works toward a full musical theatre production and is perfect for 8-11 year olds. The Youth Ensemble is for 10-15 year olds and students are cast in either a play or a musical. Finally, the Teen Musical program does a full production of a popular musical. The final production takes place at the Mainstage theatre of Hartford Stage in our downtown Hartford location.

We also offer our Summer Bookends for ages 5-8, which focuses on bringing books from the summer reading lists to life and our One Act Play for students from 9-15 who want to have silly fun in a short play.

Our staff is highly qualified, consisting of talented directors, choreographers, designers, actors, teachers and more. Staff members hold certifications in First Aid, CPR, Mental Health First Aid, and Day Camp Direction.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: In conjunction with the Summer Camp, ASAP offers a Counselor-in-Training Program. Hoping to fill a much needed gap in summer camp experiences for ages 14-17, ASAP teens will be taught how to work with and lead the younger campers, attend daily life skills workshops, take a first aid class, work with artists in the medium that they are interested in as well as sit in on an artist panel. CITs have the chance to take part in visual arts, creative writing, dance, drama, music, photography, videography, textile arts, circus arts, and costume making. Participants will learn tips for college and job success from our career coach Susie Case, Harvard Business School MBA and professor of business communications at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Brain Chase is a 6-week summer learning challenge disguised as a massive global treasure hunt for 2nd−8th graders. A golden globe has been buried somewhere on earth – and it contains the key to a safe deposit box holding a $10,000 college scholarship fund. Participants who complete an hour of online summer learning activities each day will unlock secret animated webisodes that hold the clues to the globe’s whereabouts. Ceramics & Sculpture: Students will work with clay to create 3D sculptures and pottery. Students may work with mixed media, glazes and more to create dynamic pieces that speak to them in a relaxed, creative atmosphere.

Short Film Production: Small films with big impact! We’re going into production on our own short films, written, directed, and starring our students. We’ll work on various projects at scenic locations in and around our building and even downtown New Haven. Campers will experiment with various styles and genres such as Music Videos, Comedy, Sci-Fi and Action/Suspense. This class concentrates on screen acting, camera composition, pre-production storyboarding, and directorial techniques.

Hip-Hop Dance: This upbeat, age-appropriate class teaches students the fundamentals of hip-hop
dance and choreography. Students will develop coordination, rhythm,
self-expression, and discipline in this fun class! Students will perform a
choreographed piece during the Camp Showcase.

Flipbooks: Do you ever watch cartoons, draw characters, and have a great imagination? Come learn how to create your own animations in Flipbook class! You will learn how to craft your own storyboard, become a better illustrator, and make your imagination reality!

Theater: Have you always wanted to try acting but haven’t had the chance? Or have you tried acting once or twice but want more?! Then this class is for you! You will learn the fundamentals of acting in an exciting and safe environment; you will access different parts of your personality, work with others, and learn how to bring written words to life!

2D Visual Arts: Learn, create, and explore the world of 2D art through painting, sketching, collage, and more. Students will work on mixed media pieces, portraits, still life, and open studio to create inspired pieces! Open to artists of all levels.

Glee Club: If you are interested in singing and performing fun, upbeat songs, look no further! Learn how to harmonize and work as a group to perform crowd-pleasing songs and more!

Steel Pan: Steel Pans are by far one of the most interesting musical instruments to learn. No experience necessary. They are easy to learn the basics of, challenging enough to keep you interested, and an overall extremely rewarding experience. Every student who has ever signed up for Steel Pan has had an amazing, eye-opening time! (If you are not familiar with these fabulous instruments, YouTube them immediately!).

Showcase Committee: Looking for camp leaders! This program brings campers of all grades together as they learn how to create an artist performance. This committee will create banners, programs, and plan the Camp Showcase. All artists-- creative writers, visual artists, and performers-- are needed to make this the best Showcase ever! (NOTE: Don't worry, you WILL still participate in the showcase with your other classes).

7th & 8th Grade Program Selection:

Graphic Design: Learn the basics of graphic design or improve your skills in this class. We will use the Adobe Suite (including InDesign and Photoshop) to create original images and posters!

Digital Photography: Improve your photography skills over the summer! This course will help campers improve their composition and capture the world around them. Select photos will be displayed during the Camp Showcase!

Who are the Camp Instructors and Staff?
Co-Op teachers and local artist-teachers lead all camp programs. All instructors are assisted by a current Co-Op high school student who will act as a TA. Camp staff includes Kjerstin Pugh, Camp Director and Program Manager of Co-Op After School and Kelly Wuzzardo, Director of Education at the Shubert Theater.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Limited, needs-based financial aid is available. Financial aid will depend on income level and is measured very similarly to New Haven's free- and reduced lunch program.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Is food provided? Yes! Campers are provided with a morning snack and lunch, though parents may pack their camper’s lunch if they prefer. Campers who stay for After Care will also receive a snack.

Is transportation to and from camp provided? Transportation is the responsibility of the parent. We do not offer transportation to and from camp.

Eligibility: The camp is open to both New Haven and non-New Haven residents.

During our Early Bird Holiday Special, the cost for one session is $500. Both sessions cost $1,000. After the Special, tuition will be $600 per session or $1,200 both sessions, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. These rates do NOT include the After Care Program.

The Early Bird Special must be paid in full at once. After the Special is over, you may choose between paying all at once or setting up an installment plan with the new tuition cost in effect.

Theater & Arts and Musical Theater Campers may opt to sign up for our After Care Program. This program runs from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and allows campers to choose one of three arts-related activities which vary each day (activities include theater games, visual arts, yoga, field trips, etc.). Campers will also receive snack. The After Care Program is not included in camp tuition and costs $100 per session, $200 for both sessions.

CAMP FACILITIES: We stay for the week at Camp Workcoeman, a boy scout camp. We use their facilities prior to their season starts. Laurel Staff oversees all aspects of camp, not the boy scouts. We sleep in tents, walk on trails, but still have hot meals and hot showers.

Our camp motto and goal is FELLOWSHIP THROUGH MUSIC. Our staff is all volunteer and works hard all year to ensure a great camp for all of our campers. CAMP FACILITIES: Summit has approx. 30 traditional wooden cabins with electric and private facilities in each cabin. Our main buildings include our newly refinished dining hall, air-conditioned recreational hall, our medical facility, and a newly built outdoor pavilion. Summit utilizes three A frame buildings for our arts programs, a wilderness treehouse with camp fire area for cookouts, newly resurfaced basketball/tennis courts, high/low ropes course with climbing wall, heated pool, private lake, nature fields with a farm area, martial arts dojo, go-kart track with 3 karts. Summit has a small amphitheatre adjacent to our lake, with a miraculous view of our beautiful setting where we enjoy swimming, canoeing, and riding our banana boats. Our camp resides on a gently rising hillside, thus providing us with the physical basis for our motto, "The Magic on the Hill."

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summit Camp is a co-ed sleepaway camp for ages 8-19 years with issues of attention: AD/HD, HFA/Asperger’s Disorder, and/or learning differences. Using the frame of a traditional sleepaway camp, we create platforms of success where our campers can experience outcomes such as improved self-esteem, lasting friendships, and increased independence. This is accomplished through a well-orchestrated and expertly staffed backdrop to a largely traditional camp experience- guided challenges, waterfront, adventure course, and more. It is our goal and desire to take our campers from observing peer interactions to engaging in them, to learn and celebrate their own strengths and successes, and to feel a sense of belonging and shared community with those around them while they are with us.

Our Teen Travel program extends the Summit community to provide a safe yet exciting adventure to one of our many attractive national and international destination tours offering 14 day and 19 day excursions. Summit Weekenders provide a youth-group style social retreat for adolescents to have an oasis of independence, enjoyment, and success during the school year months. Regardless of the specific program, Summit provides an expertly staffed, highly structured, and truly fun experience for our youth, and has been doing so since 1969. Summit is accredited by the American Camp Association and takes pride in our long term commitment to and successes in working with special needs youth.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Transitions to Adult Living Skills program for youth aged 15-19 provides learning and vocational opportunities for our teens. We also have vocational programs for upper camp including, big brother/big sister, waiter/waitressing, working in a specialty area or as UL assistant, photography, and more. Our SUPER TEEN program focuses on building the executive function and daily living skills OUR kids needs to succeed as independently as possible.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Summit provides weekender programs in metropolitan areas throughout the country which run from Friday evening until Sunday mid-day that provide an oasis of social involvement for our youth. NY/NJ and DC/VA weekenders meet on a monthly basis.

All teen leaders are eligible to attend all weeks but still must earn week #7. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Virtuosi Summer Music Institute and Festival address the need for intensive music education for talented and motivated students, that is affordable yet rigorous, comprehensive, and provided by world-class instructors. It also exposes the students and the wider community to a series of diverse and inspiring performances including chamber orchestra, voice, and chamber music. After a year when live musical performance was limited or non-existent, and when funding for musical education at public schools is limited, it is even more important that students reconnect with the beauty and focus offered by music education and performance. The program is open to students who demonstrate a command of their instrument and are able to perform in a variety of musical settings.

Our commitment to high-standard concerts is as strong as ever. Theatre Scrapbook’s Summer Camp is for children in grades K through 12.
The July session show will be Seussical & the August session show will be Moana.
This is a two week intensive program where campers will learn and perform a musical. No experience is necessary to participate, every camper who auditions will be in the show. As the camp session is short, it is important that the children be able to attend every day of camp.
â–ª Rehearsals run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm each day, with the exception of the performance day
â–ª There will be a snack/lunch break in the middle of camp
â–ª The goals of our camp are to help the children develop self-confidence and performance skills, as well as to have fun and make new friends in the community
â–ª The children audition on the first day of camp and receive their roles the following day
â–ª Each day, the children meet with our staff to learn their lines and songs, as well as engaging in theater activities
â–ª On the last day of camp, we will stage a full Broadway-style show for the entire community with singing, dancing, costumes, lights and music.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Two Coyotes Wilderness School is a nonprofit nature mentoring organization that connects people to nature, community, and self. We design interdisciplinary programs that provide a dynamic environment for students to face challenges, engage their natural curiosity, and cultivate an intrinsic love for learning that they bring back into the classroom and the rest of their lives.

We believe that nature connection is our birthright, and that catching frogs, muddy knees, and exploring wild places are essential to growing up strong and healthy. We believe that long-term nature mentoring can help children to thrive and navigate the many stages of their lives. Our mentors help children understand who they are, what their gifts are, and how to bring them to the world. We believe that this work is essential to creating a healthier, more connected future.

Since 2000, we have honed our innovative and transformative programs as the school has grown to employ 34 part-time instructors who provide long-term mentorship to more than 500 students (birth to 17) annually through school day, weekend, child & caregiver, rites of passage, and summer camp programs. We are committed to ensuring that Two Coyotes programming is accessible, welcoming, and inclusive of all children and families in Connecticut.

Our staff are a fun-loving bunch of adults (and a few exceptional teens) who are passionate about helping kids connect to nature. We call our teaching staff “mentors” because they help people discover their gift and power by connecting them to nature and their heart.

Our teaching style follows the "coyote mentoring" method of teaching, where lessons are indirect, yet transformational. Within this framework, our skilled nature mentors tailor each day's activities to the needs and interests of the youth, including comfort and familiarity with spending a day in a natural environment. This cultivates young people's innate curiosity and a passion for learning that will serve them when they are back in the classroom and in their future careers.

Regardless of how youth encounter our programs, all our immersive wilderness-based learning experiences challenge them to build a deeper connection to nature, community, and their own personal empowerment. We believe this results in stronger intergenerational connections, deeper community ties, greater self-awareness, and profound respect for the natural world.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We offer a Mentor-in-Training program for teens who have grown up in our programs and/or are interested in pursuing a career in wilderness mentoring. The MIT program is offered during the summer in both Newtown and Granby. It includes 2 weeks of leadership training & development, plus at least 1 service week with one of our youth camps.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: During the school year, we offer weekly school day programs in Newtown, Granby, and Killingworth to children who are homeschooled and children who leave their traditional school one day/week to learn outdoors with us. We also offer monthly weekend programs based on Wildwood, our popular adventure-fantasy summer camp. Little ones (0-5) can enroll in our weekly Coyote Pups Caregiver & Child program with an adult. We offer some adult programming and also host family-friendly community events throughout the year.

OTHER CAMP INFO: We are a licensed camp registered with the Connecticut Department of Health. Each year they conduct an unannounced inspection for our camps to ensure we meet the health and safety regulations. We are in compliance with all stated rules and regulations.

Each of our camp locations is managed by an experienced camp director who works for Two Coyotes year-round in the field and has a First Aid Director onsite who is trained in adult and pediatric CPR and First Aid.

Our ratio of campers to staff is at least 6:1, with a maximum of 12 students in each camp group. This ensures groups small enough to provide a fun and intensive experience while large enough to have a diversity of kids and ample opportunity to make new friends.

Each group of campers is led by two instructors, one of which must be a Lead Instructor. Lead Instructors have hundreds of hours of field experience working in the woods with kids. These instructors are always dedicated adults who are passionate about connecting kids to nature. They are typically in their 20s or older and have a significant amount of life experience behind them.

Sometimes a camp group includes an Assistant Instructor. Assistant Instructors are typically adults who are newer to the field of wilderness mentoring but share a love for working with kids outdoors. Assistants may also be responsible teens who have grown up in our programs and have likely completed our Mentor-in-Training program over the course of one or more summers.

All of our field staff attend an intensive annual summer training that focuses on safety, emergency protocol, first aid, and our core curriculum. The majority of our instructors have received outside first aid and CPR certification, which may include Wilderness First Aid. Each camp group carries a walkie-talkie and a first aid kit to address minor health needs in the field. Serious injuries and illnesses are handled by calling parents or 911 if needed. We have a camp doctor on call to advise us on medical situations and protocol.

All staff have passed criminal and sexual offender background checks, and have provided both personal and professional references.

Katerina Romanenko, Ph.D. Assistant Director of Youth and Family Programs

An experienced educator and visual culture historian, Dr. Romanenko specializes in Museum education, art history, American History, and object-based learning in formal and informal environments. She holds a PhD in Art History from the City University of New York and for more than 15 years teaches art history and works in Museum education. She also holds a BA in Education Sciences and has experience in research, development and implementation of educational programs for different age groups.

Alicia Mino, Art Educator, Manager of the School and Community Programs

An accomplished practicing artists and art educator, Alicia Mino received her Master’s in visual communication from the Metropolitan University of Chile, She spent fifteen years in Italy studying art history, oil painting, and sculpture. She presented in numerous art exhibitions and founded the Mates Art and Design Studio, where she taught drawing, oil/acrylic painting, and sculpture fundamentals for ten years. In 2008 Alicia moved to Philadelphia where she continues to exhibit her work and teaches art.

Lindsey Murphy, Art Educator and K-8 Program Coordinator

An art educator with over a decade of experience in the field of education, Lindsey Murphy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology; concentration in Archaeology from Millersville University, and an Elementary Teaching Certification from Millersville University. She worked as a general education classroom teacher in the Oxford Area School District in Chester County, PA for 8 years, and has worked in PAFA’s education department over the past 11 years creating and implementing numerous museum tours and art making experiences for children and families of all backgrounds, becoming the K-8 Program Coordinator in 2019..

Melissa Hendrixson, Art Educator

Melissa Hendrixson is an artist and art educator who has worked in Museum Education for over five years. She has her Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Studio Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has gained experience through assisting the coordination and development of various museum programming including family programs, youth art classes, and summer camps. She now works for the School and Community Partnership Program as an art educator where she develops and implements museum tours, school lessons, and community outreach programs to support student learning, parental engagement and visual literacy initiatives.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The Holiday Hill NEST program grows 9th and 10th graders into leaders. Many of our oldest campers eagerly stay on, often becoming the next generation of kid-loving counselors. But NEST is not just counselor training, so we welcome all who seek a very educational and motivational program. NEST (Nurturing Experiences for Staff Trainees) — • 2-year progressive experiential education course • Develops natural leadership qualities by teaching basic camp leadership skills • Creates well-rounded, thoughtful, caring and competent staff members with a broad range of human relation skills, outdoor education techniques, sports, games and camp programming ideas. • Benefits young people regardless of their interest in camp counseling.

While not a prerequisite or a promise, most of our current staff members are graduates of this course. Eagle Phase • Campers entering ninth grade in the fall after camp • 4-week program taken in either sessions 1-2 or sessions 3-4 • Course components led by our Camp Director, Aquatics Director, Ropes Course facilitators and other key camp staff • Coordinated by a specially trained counselor who acts as the Group Leader • Enrollment limited on a first-come, first-served basis by registering with the standard summer camp registration form. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Director Alexandra Coury has found that students start to work on leadership skills long after their personalities are formed which makes it harder for skills to improve. Alex feels that the earlier children are taught the basics skills needed to be a leader the more likely they are to take leadership roles through high school and beyond. Alex's goal is to take everyone's skills to the next level and to help them become better versions of themselves.

Alex's Background:

As a Division-I student-athlete, Alex Coury took on a large leadership role with the NCAA as a representative of nine universities to the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In this role, Alex voiced the opinions of Division-I student-athletes to the executives of the NCAA, university presidents and college administrators. Additionally, Alex served as the sole Division-I female student-athlete representative to the Committee on Women's Athletics for two years where she advocated for the advancement of emerging sports for women and the promotion of females in athletic careers.

Professionally, Alex worked in the Department of Athletics at the University of Hartford from 2008-2013 working her way from graduate assistant to Assistant Director of Athletics in just three short years. During her time in athletics, Alex spoke at several national leadership conferences including the Conference on Gender Equity and Inclusion in San Diego, CA, the National Student-Athlete Leadership Conference, in Orlando, FL. and the NCAA Regional Women's Leadership Conference in Boston, MA.

Currently, Alex is the Program Manager for the Women's Education and Leadership Fund at the University of Hartford. Her primary responsibility is overseeing the female student leadership program including creating the four-year curriculum and acting as the lead facilitator in bi-weekly leadership training sessions.

"Alex earned an M.B.A. at the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford. She holds a Bachelor of Science in business management with a minor in communications from the University of Hartford.

Other camp staff members are college students who have excelled through leadership programming at the University of Hartford avenues.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The UConn Natural Resources Conservation Academy is a popular, award-winning program. The NRCA Conservation Ambassador Program (CAP) is a unique opportunity for high school students to learn about natural resources and conservation biology from UConn professors, graduate students, community environmental professionals, and from each other.

Each student has a story and the CAP field experience has a unique effect on everyone involved. The 2021 Hybrid CAP brings high school students from around the state to the UConn Storrs campus for an immersive outdoor experience and a highly interactive online program with peers from around the state. From Broadway Junior musicals based on classic titles like Guys and Dolls and Oliver! to beloved Disney shows like The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins, Raise Your Voice offers a fun introduction to musical revues for young performers. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Every child must audition to attend the program. There are NO exceptions. Pre-registration for auditions is REQUIRED as well. Each child is to bring sheet music or an instrumental recording and be prepared to sing. An accompanist will be provided.

The workshop will be held at Bacon Academy Auditorium, July 11 through July 22, Monday through Friday, 9am-Noon, culminating in a show on July 23 at 2:00 p.m. Colchester Community Theatre will be following the Colchester Public Schools and CDC guidelines during auditions and the workshop for the health and safety of our performers, patrons and staff.

CCT will be producing Broadway Junior Revue: Raise Your Voice for this workshop. Raise Your Voice is a brand-new revue featuring songs from across MTI's Broadway Junior® collection. From Broadway Junior musicals based on classic titles like Guys and Dolls and Oliver! to beloved Disney shows like The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins, Raise Your Voice offers a fun introduction to musical revues for young performers. In Raise Your Voice, CCT will have the opportunity to customize our show through interstitials (i.e. transitions) between numbers. We will definitely make this show our own!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Each camper will receive instruction on the fundamentals of all major strokes and will enhance their skills through repetition, ball-feeding drills, live-ball situations and competitive match play. In addition, campers will be exposed to team competition and match play in singles and doubles. These camps are excellent preparation for anyone interested in participating in middle school, high school or USTA team tennis, or preparing to compete in USTA leagues and/or tournaments.

CAMP FACILITIES: All of our cabins are no more than 8 years old. Each is equipped with heat, air conditioning, and their own bathroom with stalls. Our huge dining hall is only 3 years old and holds our whole summer camp staff and campers. We are located on Lake Probus. We have a basketball court, gymnasium, and an outdoor pool.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer Camp & Weekends in the Country are offered at the Horizons' Campus in South Windham, Connecticut. All activities are tailor made for children and adults with developmental disabilities and other special needs over the age of 8. During the summer a special Masters Program is offered for campers over the age of 40.

The staff at Horizons are passionate about what they do and are chosen for their proven abilities. They receive a six-day orientation, ongoing professional development, and regular support from an experienced, hands-on Leadership Team.

The spacious, exquisitely designed Milne Family Commons is the central gathering place: to enjoy healthy meals from a kitchen able to cater to special diets, to shop at the trendy Horizons Trading post, and to join together to celebrate accomplishments. Staff participate in a six day orientation, as well as ongoing staff development groups and weekly staff meetings. Our high rate of returning campers and staff is evidence of the success of Horizons.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Debate Camp creates a learning experience that is safe, welcoming, fun, and intellectually-engaging. Our program is meant to appeal to all ability levels, from the reluctant speaker to the already-accomplished debater.

We believe that learning is best served by engaging students in an academic experience, while at the same time ensuring they feel empowered to take risks.

We believe that "camp" creates a novel and secure learning environment in which campers feel safe to try new skills, think on their feet, see the opposing view, and to trust their teammates. Campers repeatedly inform us of how successful their academic experiences are - after Debate Camp, largely because they felt emboldened and confident in their ability to engage in discourse on subjects they felt unsure about only weeks previous. " I learned so much" is the most consistent feedback we get.

We feel that debating is not an elite skill for competition purposes only. Nor is it something that should be oversold / overcharged for the purpose of enhancing the college application process. We believe that to have advocacy skills, an ability with rhetoric, an ability to effectively organize one's thoughts, an ability to listen and be heard and to honour one's opponents with effective points and counter-points, are skills that all kids should develop.

As such, we annually review our fee scale to ensure we remain within reach of as many families as possible. We continue to work on funding and recruitment structures so that we may continue to remove barriers to enrichment education.

CAMP FACILITIES: While teamwork is an extremely important aspect engineering, due to COVID we have 4 students per class and a 1:1:1 Robot, Laptop to Student ratio. The benefits of this is learning at your own pace and in your own style.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The morning starts with an introduction and review of the day's plan. We have a brief lesson where we learn the concepts needed for the day, then take a break. After the break, we practice what we learned by programming our robots. The week culminates with a dance performance that we record and upload to Southeastern CT Robotics' Facebook page.
This introductory course leads to more fun courses like our SoccerBot Camp and SummoBot Camp. If you discover a passion for robotics in the classes, you can join one of the three FLL teams who meet weekly at "The Lab" and compete locally.

We offer many different different sports--and countless ways for your child to grow. The camps range from soccer to baseball to our popular mulit-sport camps where kids sample three different sports (soccer, basketball and baseball) in one camp.

Our camps and programs are offered locally throughout over 500 communities. The format includes traditional week-long summer day camps and year-round after-school programs that range from 45 minutes to 6 hours in duration, per day. Our progression of camps and programs, led by our expert staff, are generated toward youth looking for a sport introduction or those who want to refine and master their sport-specific skills.

Our coaches and site directors make a significant difference to your child's on-field experience. At Skyhawks we go the extra mile to focus on safety, and we have a long-standing proven safety track record and processes to prove it. For example, all Skyhawks Sports camps start and end with our unique safety process called "Gate System and Parking Lot Duty." This process is where coaches come and greet both parents and campers in the parking lot when parents pull up to drop off their children.

Our staff guide the kids onto the field/court and out of harm's way by funneling them into our gate system. Eye contact is maintained from each one of our staff members until the kids make it onto the field/court where they are grouped by age. This efficient process ensures safety. Additionally, it develops a level of trust between parent, coach, and child that ultimately leads to a fun and skill-focused camp for youth.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 15 Cabins set on 40 acres , we are located in the beautiful rolling hills of Litchfield County, we reside on the shores of Bantam Lake, the largest natural lake in CT, we offer swimming, boating and water skiing on the lake, as well as go karts, motor cross and tons of land sports and other activities. There is something for every boy from wood shop to water skiing.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We offer Senior trips for our older boys, to go white water rafting, whale watching and visit amusements parks in NY and Mass.

-All sessions start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday

-A deposit must be received by October 31st to secure the Early Bird tuition rates listed above.

-Siblings receive a 5% discount for the 2, 4, 6, or 8 week sessions.

-Rookie Week is offered to new campers only. While at camp, families will have the option of extending through August 17th for the 2-week price.

-A Canteen account is required for all campers and is used at our camp store, camp trips, and other miscellaneous items your camper may need while at camp.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our programs operate in a classroom environment with room for multiple tables to facilitate cooperative inquiry-based hands-on learning. Most of our locations are air-conditioned if indoors. Typically we also have an outdoor area available for outside activities.

CAMP FACILITIES: The campus offers numerous athletic fields, an all purpose field house, outdoor basketball courts, and tennis courts.
